Preview: May the 4th Be With You - May 7, 2022

For the first time in league history, our annual "May the 4th Be With You" Duel won't be played on May 4th!  That's practically blasphemy in these parts.  But the Baylor academic calendar and Rob's last doctoral class conspired against us.  Have no fear!  The sentiment remains, and we're playing on Saturday the 7th instead.  Hopefully this doesn't become our new norm.

This Duel also marks the one year anniversary of the craziest moment in Duel history, when Kaleb used a simple Flamethrower by Jango Fett to kill nine people in one turn - thanks to the closing trash compactor doors!!!  That moment will never be topped.

MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU HISTORY:

2021 - Kaleb won with Jango Fett in the Trash Compactor
2020 - Ryan won with Han Solo on the Kamino Platform
2019 - Riley won with Emperor Palpatine in the Emperor's Throne Room
2018 - Rob won with Mace Windu in the Emperor's Throne Room
2017 - JD won with Yoda in the Emperor's Throne Room
2016 - Chris K . won with Jango Fett in the Emperor's Throne Room
2015 - Rob won with Jango Fett in the Carbon Freezing Chamber

MEET THE DUELERS:

Corona - The good news is Corona turned professional at the last Duel!  The bad news is he did it by finishing last place with Princess Leia at Duel of the Fates.

Curtis - He comes into this Duel with three top-5 finishes in his last three games, and tied for second in career Duels played with Grant D.

Grant D. - Speak of the devil!  Our longtime veteran Dueler has had a hard time making it to the table this year.  This will be his first appearance since the Doubleheader.

Grant H. - Boba Fett might be a stone cold killer, but so is Grant H. when he's playing with Cad Bane!  Grant won his first Duel ever by piloting Cad's first career match at Duel of the Fates.

Ian - Ian nearly pulled off The Mandalorian's first career victory at Duel of the Fates, coming up short in second place.  He'd love his first trophy of 2022.

JD M. - JD found himself on the wrong end of CJ's vengeance last month, getting his hand dropped by her Moff Gideon and then disintegrated by Mando.

Karson - This soon-to-be Truett graduate is still searching for his first career victory.  His brother won this Duel last year, so he'll try to keep it in the family this go-round.

Kat - There are rumors coming from the outer rim that Kat will soon journey to a galaxy far, far away, to construct her very own light saber.  The color of that blade has yet to be determined...

Miguel - He has two top-6 finishes in his last two Duels, including a second place at the Valentine's Day game.  Could this finally be the moment he brings home a trophy?

Riley - Do you know who is fifth among active Duelers in games played?  That's right, the recently turned 14 year old Riley!  How did that happen so quickly???

Rob - The Godfather had a fun time showing off Fennec Shand at the Duel of the Fates, finishing in fourth place and recording two Cannon Blasts to boot.

Rylie - This looks like the probable final 12-way Duel for the about-to-graduate Rylie.  She would love to record one more victory before joining Kaleb in the Mustang System.

MONOPOLY PREDICTS THE WINNER:

It's my understanding Monopoly would like to read a statement.  Monopoly, take it away:

"My fellow Duelers and board game enthusiasts.
It is with great sadness and regret that I must inform
you I hereby resign from predicting winners of these
12-way Duels.  It has come to my attention that I
suck at it, and the time has come for a new voice
to prognosticate.
The Jedi Council has informed me I may not pick a
winner for this last Duel, so I am not allowed to say I
think Moff Gideon will claim victory.  I repeat, I am not
allowed to pick Moff Gideon as the
May the 4th champion.
Thank you and God bless."

Monopoly, you sneaky son of a... I see what you did there.  Rest assured folks, that was the last you'll ever have to see Monopoly again.

We're playing Saturday at 7:30 in North Village, and the Conveyex Train board is where we'll battle.  Rumors have it there might be Yoda Soda...
